Prof Ron Paterson grew up in South Auckland, of Scottish and Ngāti Raukawa descent. He is a health law and ethics expert, emeritus professor at Auckland University and former Health and Disability Commissioner and Ombudsman. Ron is a lay member of Medical Council and on the board of the Health Quality & Safety Commission. He has led several major inquiries in New Zealand and Australia including into mental health and aged care. Ron enjoys choral singing, off-road running, tramping and helping on a farm near Lake Waikaremoana.
